“At Sixes And Sevens”

　　看到這個成語裡的兩個基數詞 six 和 seven 都用了複數形式，你一定會覺得奇怪吧！不錯，基數詞一般是不加複數的，這種情況只能稱是例外了。這個成語是個介詞短語，表示的是一種“亂哄哄、雜亂無章”的狀態，相當於漢語中的“亂七八糟”。漢語中用了“七”和“八”這兩個數詞，英語中用了“six”和“seven”這兩個數詞來表示同樣的一種狀態，這只能說是一種巧合。至於為什麼要說 at sixes and sevens 而不說 at sevens and eights，那就沒有道理可講了，只是一種約定俗成的形式吧！那麼你就死記這種形式吧！
